Excellent lock
Cycling in London there is always a relatively high risk of bike theft. This lock does a lot to deter any potential thieves.

Pros:
- D-lock small but large enough to get round thin lamp-posts. Standard width.

Cons:
- The D-lock holder that connects to the frame is useless. The simple tightening mechanism comes loose quickly along any small bumps in the road. Which is a pain as the lock swings round into the pedalling zone.

Kryptonite Evolution Mini 7
This is my first bicycle lock and I had to read a lot of reviews before deciding what lock to choose. Small U-locks seem to have the best reputation, and Kryptonite is among the most recommended brands (just make sure you're not buying an old kryptonite with that BIC-pen problem). The lock is pretty small, but just enough, no extra space left between your bike and a bike rack/pole. Light enough to carry in a bag, it can also be attached to the pannier rack. No real need for the complicated u-bracket. Haven't tried the flex cable, it looks sturdy, but I'm thinking of getting a second u-lock to do what the Kryptonite website calls "ultimate security lock-up". By the way, do check the website for proper lock-up instructions and to register your keys, and if you're lucky to live in one of the countries covered by the anti-theft insurance, do register for it too.

Devastated
i bought this lock and the kryptonite cable about 3 week ago for my new thousand pound scott scale bike went to the DW fitness gym today locked it up to a secure bike rack came out two and a half hours later the bike lock and cable and bike was gone!!!!!! (no cameras on the bike rack either cheers Dave Whelan owner of DW Fitness) and i didnt have insurance either i wont be buying kryptonite goods i will just buy a shotgun instead and shoot the little ******* gutted dont bother buying these items because if someone wants to take your bicycle they will best to keep it indoors if possible

Great little lock
Actually bought two of these locks for my work bike and have not been disappointed. One was meant to stay at work and one for home for taking to the shops etc but as its so light and easy to carry, I only use the one and have no problem carrying it around on my bike. As with all Kryptonite locks it feels secure and is well made. Its a lot lighter than you would expect which means that you can easily carry it around without it feeling heavy. The bracket works well and keeps the lock secure.

Its probably safer than longer D Locks because of its short design which means that it would be impossible to get a car jack through to prize it open and without specialist cutting tool, I doubt anyone could cut through it. It just doesnt fit through my back wheel which is no problem as I have special fixings to prevent the quick release being undone and the wheels taken (which is what happened to my old bike!)

Good lock, but bear in mind ...
This kyptonite lock is a very good lock. Whether or not it is the lock for your bike may well be another matter!

If you will not be carrying the lock around with you, I would very highly recommend it ... although that probably does rather defeat the main purpose of buying it in the first place!

This lock is not lightweight, so if you do not want to carry around more weight than you have to I would caution you against buying it. It's weight also means that if you were thinking of carrying this lock in your bag, rather than fixing it to your frame with the supplied mount, I would look for another lock.

Having mentioned the supplied mount, it is my chief complaint about this product! I suspect, the lock will not fit within the confines of any bike frame in a way that enables you to take it out of the "EZMount"(I have a spacious 21.5" frame and it doesn't fit because of it). The EZMount holds the lock a significant distance away from the frame of your bike...

THE LOCK
The lock works fine. Unlike some of Kyrptonite's locks, you can fit the U-bar into the straight-bar either way round. I'd would caution against buying on looks though: it looks pretty in the photo, but in real life that orange bar is massive and very orange. I feel kind of embarrassed by it. It really is big, like a baby's arm or something. Understated it is not. Look at one in a shop first.

THE BRACKET
The real source of my buyer's remorse. The plastic is sturdy enough, but the design is just wrong. There is nothing EZ about mounting this bracket.

1) It holds the lock about 4 inches off the bike frame. Unless you have a *very* large frame, the lock won't fit in any place suggested in the instructions.

2) You can try getting creative and fitting it elsewhere, but the tightening-strap is either too short for, or doesn't tighten close enough for, any locations not shown in the instructions.

Excellent Cycle Lock
I had two cycles stolen within a week and wasn't going to let it happen again. My old locks weren't cheap but were simply cut off the cycle. So I thought I'd go with a Gold rated U lock this time. A previous reviewer had said that it took a fire crew 30 minutes with specialist equipment to remove her lock having lost the key! I therefore bought two of these locks for my replacement cycle. The lock is well made and the orange locking bar gives a suitable warning to would be thieves. I have managed to fix both lock holders on the seat down-tube, one above the other, both locks facing forward but at slightly different angles (the angle is adjustable). With this arrangement I can carry 2 of these locks on my cycle without fouling my feet as I pedal or the drinks holder on the front down-tube. I would recommend this lock as a serious security device. A decent lock is not cheap but it cost me more to replace my stolen bikes and they were insured!

The lock looks very strong, with an oversized diameter shackle and a oval section main body with central key location, the action locks both sides of the shackle "U" not just one like some models, the keys are high security not the tubular type which can be easily opend with a pen, one key of the 3 has a blue LED light built in, though the carrying bracket is well made I found the lock was too big to fit within the frame of my 19" framed MTB so is unlikely to fit most bikes. The lock used by bike messengers
I bought this lock after a number of recommendations. The last one from my local bike shop who tried to break it with a long bar and two blokes hanging off it. But aside from the strength of the thing (they failed to break it) I chose this lock because it is smaller and lighter than most standard D locks. This is why many bike messengers use it. It is also easy to lock and unlock. If you chose this lock though appreciate it will not have the reach standard D locks have ie you may not be able to fasten it through wheels and frame and an unmovable object.

The smaller the better.
Many previous reviewers have complained about the size of the lock. I don't feel that this is a flaw, if anything a U/D lock should be as small and thick as possible to minimise the possibility of a leverage based theft as well as minimise the space available for a thief to maneuver.

For those who are trying to lock the frame and tyre to a post; there is a much simpler solution:

Secure the BACK wheel to the post THROUGH the rear triangle of the frame (between the seat and chain stays). This way you are securing the rim to the frame and both to the post. Trust me, it is exceptionally difficult to saw through the rim of a wheel and pointless as the rear wheel is the second most expensive component. With that being said I would not recommend the use of this lock by itself if you are going to be leaving your bike unattended for long periods of time as it will leave your front wheel unsecured.
